Pick & Place application

Description

Application: Products are picked up at a specific position and moved to another position, e.g. placed onto a belt or directly into a package. This function is often available in packaging machines or filling systems.
Function: The products are usually supplied via an intelligent belt where the products placed at random positions are sorted. A sensor then provides a release signal and the products are picked up by a gripper. The horizontal and vertical movements require highly precise and dynamic drives. The linear axes move the picked product to the defined target position.

Solution

This system uses dynamic, high-precision BSH servo motors and Lexium 05 servo drives. The motors are compact, have a low moment of inertia and reach high speeds - the prerequisites for fast acceleration and deceleration.
The integrated SinCos encoders allow the servo motors and the Lexium05 servo drives to be perfectly tuned to each other. This is done by automatically loading the motor parameters, i.e. no additional configuration is required. The multi-turn absolute encoder lets the machine retain its current positions in the case of under voltage.
The BSH servo motors are mounted to Schneider Electric PAS portal axes. These highly flexible axes are easy to mount. They are available in two versions as spindle or toothed belt axes. A Lexium Motion Controller (LMC) synchronizes the movements via the CANopen Motionbus. The operator can monitor and change the production parameters via a Magelis HMI terminal which communicates with the motion controller via Ethernet.
