Pick & Place Stockroom application
Description
Application: Automated removal of products from a rack for small parts and transfer of these parts to, for example, a conveyor belt.
Function: The master controller sends the required rack position to the motor controllers in the form of X/Z coordinates. The linear axes then move to this position with great speed, dynamics and precision. When the position is reached, a gripper unit mounted to the horizontal linear axis picks up the product which is then moved to the target position for further transport.
Motion control challenges
The synchronization of all processes is paramount. All mechanical movements must be exactly tuned to each other. The system must provide process reliability at maximum precision and short cycle times.
Solution
The Pick & Place robot was built with the new generation of Schneider Electric PAS portal axes. Together with the Lexium 05 servo drives, a Lexium Motion Controller (LMC) and a Magelis HMI terminal, Schneider Electric provides a complete solution with perfectly tuned components.
Two BSH servo motors are connected to two Lexium 05 servo drives. The motors are equipped with SinCos multi-turn encoders. They store the current robot position in case of under voltage and ensure that the system can restart without homing.
The convenient user interface of the Magelis HMI terminal makes it easy for the operator to enter and modify the process parameters. These parameters are transmitted to the Schneider Electric motion controller via Ethernet. The motion controller calculates the corresponding position and moves the two Lexium 05 servo drives (interpolation). This guarantees a dynamic motion sequence with high precision.
