Bottle Capping application
Description
Application: Fast and reliable capping of bottles without damage to the thread.
Application areas: Food and beverage industries, medical, packaging industry.
Function: The caps are screwed onto the bottles in torque mode, i.e. the motor applies a constant force to the cap. At the beginning of the process, the cap is turned at a high speed as it encounters little resistance. The mechanical resistance increases until the motor reaches its maximum torque. As soon as the bottles are closed, the axis moves back to the initial position.
Solution
The drive system consists of two motors and a product sensor. An additional sensor at the belt drive provides the position and speed signal of the products.
In case of a power failure and when the system is switched on again, the multi-turn absolute encoder of the integrated servo drive ILA provides the current position information. This ensures that all bottles are properly capped.
A Schneider Electric Motion Controller communicates via CANopen with the integrated drive. The capping unit and the belt are synchronized via the CANopen Motionbus. The operator can monitor and change the production parameters via a Magelis HMI which is connected to the Schneider Electric motion controller via Ethernet.
