Modicon™ STB Modular Distributed I/O is a cost-effective, feature-rich distributed I/O solution that places I/O at the point of control to provide a 60% savings in wiring and installation costs while improving reliability and operation. The Modicon STB solution offers a set of modules to enable a lower feature set system at a lower cost per point basis and still retain several key Modicon STB advantages, such as reduced engineering, wiring and connectivity costs.

Additional product choices within the Modicon STB product family promote solutions that mix and match low-feature and high-feature components, creating a more scalable and extendable distributed I/O system. New modules are designed for applications that do not require advanced capabilities, such as software configuration, local reflex action, local HMI connectivity or advanced diagnostics. With new network interface modules, power distribution modules, and I/O modules, Advantys STB now offers broader coverage to give a more cost-effective solution to more customers.

Using local reflex functionality, the Modicon STB platform enables high-speed logic solving (1 to 3 milliseconds) for time-critical applications, which reduces the logic load on the PLC, saving it for more critical operations. Hot swap capability maximizes productivity and minimizes downtime by allowing failed I/O modules to be changed without shutting down the machine.

• For applications not using Unity PLCs, comprehensive configuration software enhances functionality with advanced diagnostics, configuration of reflex functions, test mode, resource analysis and other configuration capabilities.
• Advanced power distribution capabilities provide separate power for input and output devices and eliminate the need for extra terminals and protection devices.
• Dual-port Modbus TCP/IP network interface module supports daisy chaining of Modbus STB in a self-healing ring with RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol).
• Removable wiring connector saves time and speeds up commissioning through pre-wired connectors.
• Removable memory card enables back up and reproduction of custom configurations on multiple machines.
• Connecting to the major fieldbus protocols simplifies integration with the master controller. Systems can be remotely monitored through an embedded webpage or locally monitored at the I/O level via an embedded serial port that can provide a direct connection to a Modbus HMI.
